Weymouth Bans Nonessential Outdoor Water Use Under Level 2 Drought Order

The town has enacted a Level 2 Significant Drought designation, effective immediately, banning all nonessential outdoor water use for residents and businesses — the most consequential local action of the past 24 hours.

TOWN HALL

Weymouth is now under a Level 2 Significant Drought declaration, triggering an immediate ban on all nonessential outdoor water use. The restriction applies to both residents and businesses and follows guidance from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. The town's News Flash did not specify an end date; the ban remains in effect until drought conditions improve.

Also from Town Hall: the annual Fourth of July fireworks spectacular will not be held on the holiday itself. Due to circumstances including the national 250th anniversary celebration drawing resources to Boston, Weymouth's fireworks display has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 5. Residents should plan accordingly.

The Water Department's annual Water Main Flushing Program, which began in South Weymouth in April, is wrapping up in North Weymouth and is expected to conclude by the end of June.

SCHOOLS

The end of the school year is one day away. Friday, June 27, is the last day of school for Weymouth Public Schools — an early release day. The district posted a reminder Tuesday about summer office hours and how families can reach staff during the break. The district also released grade-level summer reading lists covering PreK through grade 12, which are available on the WPS website.

Looking ahead to fall: the first day for staff is September 1, with students in grades 1–6 and grade 9 returning September 3 (early release), and kindergartners plus grades 7–8 and 10–12 starting September 4.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

No new library programs or community-arts events were announced in this cycle.
