Weymouth Town Council sets June 30 target for Union Point development closing
WEYMOUTH — May 4, 2026 — Weymouth Town Council set a June 30, 2026, target closing date for the Union Point redevelopment project while approving three municipal appointments at its May 4 session. New England Development Executive Vice President John Twohig and Vice President Paul Cincotta told the council the Disposition and Development Agreement is finalized and will be executed at closing, with spine road infrastructure work to begin immediately after — a roughly 1.5-mile road requiring more than 4,200 feet of water pipe and 4,800 feet of sewer pipe, with initial home occupancy projected for spring 2028. Twohig disclosed the project lost an investor last month due to concerns over a pending statewide rent-control petition and said a rebranding away from the Union Point name is likely. The council voted 10-0 to approve Teryn Hermenau as Director of Public Health, and 8-2 to refer a resident-presented Medicare for All resolution to the Budget Management Committee after a substitute motion to defer action until after the FY2027 budget failed 6-4. Mayor Michael Melise's office formally withdrew the appointment of Edward Langill as Chief Financial Officer.
