Weymouth Bans All Nonessential Outdoor Water Use Under Level 2 Drought Order
WEYMOUTH — The town has entered Level 2 (Significant Drought) status, prohibiting all nonessential outdoor water use effective immediately, while Town Hall also announced this year's fireworks display will move to July 5 because of the nation's 250th anniversary festivities in Boston.
TOWN HALL
Weymouth is now under a Level 2 Significant Drought designation, and all residents and businesses are required to comply with the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs' conservation measures — which ban all nonessential outdoor water use outright. No watering of lawns, washing of vehicles, or other discretionary outdoor water activity is permitted until the designation is lifted.
The town's annual Fireworks Spectacular will shift to Sunday, July 5, rather than the customary July 4 date. Town Hall cited circumstances beyond its control, including the massive scale of national 250th anniversary celebrations and a large-scale event planned for Boston that will dominate regional resources.
The Department of Municipal Licenses and Inspections (Building) is advising residents to expect delays in public records request fulfillment; no timeline for resolution was included in the notice.
The Water Department's annual Water Main Flushing Program, which started in South Weymouth on April 13, is continuing northward and is expected to conclude by the end of June.
SCHOOLS
Weymouth Public Schools released its Summer Reading Lists on June 15, posting grade-level learning assignments and suggested books for students in grades PreK through 12. Families can find the lists at the district's newsroom at weymouthschools.org. The school year is on track to close June 26, an early release day.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The town's Summer Concert Series opens Wednesday, June 17. The calendar lists it as "Opening Night" — specific performer and venue details were not included in the town's posting, so residents should check weymouth.ma.us for the full lineup before heading out.
