Weymouth Moves Fireworks Spectacular to July 5, Citing 250th Anniversary Conflicts
WEYMOUTH — The town has rescheduled its annual Fireworks Spectacular to Sunday, July 5 — pushing the holiday tradition one day later because of circumstances tied to the country's 250th-anniversary celebration and the massive scale of Boston's events.
TOWN HALL
Weymouth's Fireworks Spectacular will not take place on Independence Day this year. A town announcement posted to the official website says the display has been moved to July 5 due to circumstances beyond the town's control, specifically naming the national 250th anniversary and the outsized scope of this year's celebration in Boston. No venue change was noted. Residents with plans anchored to a July 4 show will need to adjust accordingly.
Separately, the Department of Municipal Licenses and Inspections (Building) has posted a notice warning of delays in processing public records requests. No timeline for resolution was included in the announcement.
The Department of Public Works water main flushing program, which began in South Weymouth on April 13, continues northward and is expected to wrap up by the end of June. Residents in active flushing zones may notice temporary changes to water color or pressure.
SCHOOLS
Chapman Middle School eighth graders presented civics research projects at the school's annual Civics Fair on June 9 — the most recent item posted in the district newsroom. The fair serves as a capstone showcase for eighth-grade social studies.
Two end-of-year dates for families to mark: June 19 is a no-school day in observance of Juneteenth, and June 26 is the last day of school, designated as an early release day.
