Weymouth Moves Fireworks to July 5, Bans Outdoor Water Use Under Drought Order
With the Fourth of July week arriving, Weymouth residents face three overlapping developments: the town's annual fireworks spectacular has been rescheduled, a Level 2 drought ban is now in force, and the school district has published guidance on reaching staff over the summer break.
TOWN HALL
The town's fireworks display will not fall on Independence Day this year. Because of the 250th anniversary of the country and the scale of Boston's regional celebration, Weymouth has moved its fireworks spectacular to Saturday, July 5. Residents should plan accordingly for parking and viewing logistics.
Also in effect immediately: Weymouth is under a Level 2 (Significant Drought) designation issued by the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. All nonessential outdoor water uses are banned for residents and businesses alike. That prohibition covers lawn irrigation, car washing, and similar activities until the designation is lifted.
Separately, the Department of Municipal Licenses and Inspections (Building) has posted a notice that responses to public records requests from that department are being delayed; residents with pending requests should expect additional processing time.
SCHOOLS
The Weymouth Public Schools district posted guidance this week on how families and staff can make contact over the summer. Summer office hours are in effect, and the district has outlined the appropriate contacts and channels. The district also published its summer reading lists for all grade levels, covering suggested books and grade-level learning assignments for students from Pre-K through grade 12. The first day back for staff is set for September 1, with students in grades 1–6 and grade 9 returning September 3 (an early-release day), and kindergarteners and students in grades 7–8 and 10–12 returning September 4.
