Weymouth School Committee Approves Disputed Minutes 4-2, Names Pingree Principal
WEYMOUTH — June 4, 2026 — Weymouth School Committee votes 4-2 to approve disputed subcommittee minutes over open-meeting-law objections. The committee, meeting June 4, rejected Committee Member Ashley McLean's contention that the April 16 policy subcommittee minutes violated Massachusetts General Law Chapter 30A, with presiding Vice Chair Mary Ellen Nardone reading a formal rebuttal arguing that "disagreement over the level of detail in minutes is a matter of opinion and procedure, not a legal violation." The committee also unanimously approved two spending warrants totaling $1,872,530.83, voted to authorize Superintendent Melanie Curtin to join the South Shore Educational Collaborative board effective July 1, and introduced Diane Babcock — a Weymouth resident and former Quincy assistant principal — as the new Pingree Elementary principal. Michelle McCrovitch of Teamsters Local 653 warned the board during public comment that if it fails to add an addendum protecting driver wages and benefits before the June 22 transportation bid opening, "any loss of financial security suffered by these drivers will be the direct result of the decision made by you."
